Virgin Media hikes prices by up to £54 a year for millions of broadband, TV and phone customers

VIRGIN Media is hiking prices for millions of broadband, TV and home phone customers by up to £54 a year.

Around five million cable customers will be affected by the price hike and will see prices go up from either their September or October bills.

From today, the telecoms giant is writing to customers to let them know about the changes.

Bill payers will see between £2.50 and £4.50 added to monthly payments - that's up to an extra £54 a year.

Customers who signed up to the provider's Oomph bundles from April 29 will not be affected by the price changes.

Talk Protected plans for over 65s and Virgin Mobile customers will also not be affected by the hikes.

But affected customers can cancel their contract penalty-free as a result of the increase as long as they notify Virgin Media within 30 days of receiving notification about the rise.

In August last year, Virgin Media hiked bills by £48 for five million broadband, TV and home phone customers.

And as recently as last month, Virgin Money also raised prices by 2.4 per cent adding £10 a year to bills.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said the firm didn't take the decision over raising prices "lightly".

They said: "We are committed to giving our customers an incredible service with unrivalled connectivity, great, high-quality programming and innovative new upgrades – and our customers can expect much more to come."

Virgin Media is only the latest telecoms provider to roll out price hikes across its products recently.

Last week, EE announced that it will hike prices for out-of-contract calls and texts for millions of customers.

While BT announced Sport and TV price hikes of £48 per year earlier this month.

And in April, Sky hiked bills for millions of users by £30 a year.
