Claire’s Accessories recalls llama soft toy due to concerns it will overheat and cause burns
CLAIRE'S Accessories shoppers should check if they've recently bought a cuddly llama as the soft toy has been recalled amid safety concerns.
The retailer has issued the recall as it's worried the battery in the singing and dancing llama could overheat and burn anyone who touches it.
Testing of the "Llama Jingle Bells" soft toy found that the batteries heated up to a whopping 45 degrees Celsius.
If you've got one you should stop using it and take it to your nearest store for a full refund.
The affected product number of the fluffy toy, which is dressed up in a red Santa hat and scarf, is 28640 and can be found on the label.
Claire's says the toy was on sale between October 2018 and February 2019.
Your product recall rights
PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
We've asked how much the toy cost and how many were sold and we'll update this story if we get a response.
A spokesperson for the children's retailer told The Sun: "We became aware of potential issues with the Singing Dancing Llama plush product at the beginning of February, despite it passing toy testing standards during manufacture, and being supplied by a large reputable toy manufacturer.
"As a precautionary measure we immediately pulled the item from the shop floor while we carried out further testing.
"The results of the additional testing have led us to issue a voluntary recall of the product due to a risk of overheating and small parts.
"We took this action voluntarily as we care about the safety of our customers. We will be issuing full refunds for all items purchased."
