SWEET TREAT

Aldi’s £2 dessert ‘tastes exactly like Wetherspoons’ cookie dough sandwich’ – but it’s nearly half the price

It went on sale in stores this month and serves five people

ALDI has done it again with a new copycat dessert that tastes just like one sold at Wetherspoons pubs for nearly twice the price.

The delicious-looking toffee cookie dough pie went on sale for £1.99 in stores this month - and it looks like the perfect pud.

Photos of the toffee icing-covered pie with toffee pieces on top on social media are making our mouths water.

One customer, Laura Stockdale, who tried the dessert called the pud "sexy" in a post on the

She said it tastes exactly like the warm cookie dough sandwich dessert served at JD Wetherspoon pubs.

But that dessert costs £3.80 - £1.81 more than Aldi's version.

Of course, Wetherspoons' dessert is more expensive because it is warmed up for you and it also comes with ice cream.

Plus you don't have to do any washing up.

But you would still save money even if you bought a huge tub of vanilla ice cream for £1.19 at Aldi to go with your pud as the total would come to £3.20 - 60p less than Wetherspoons' dessert.

A word of warning, though: Aldi's dessert is - unsurprisingly - quite calorific.

The whole thing contains 1,385 calories.

The discount supermarket recommends you only eat a fifth of the pudding at a time, which still contains a hefty 277 calories and 23g of sugar.

Laura confessed she couldn't help but share the pie between two because it was so delicious.

She said: "Me and my partner ended up having half each, terrible I know."

But if you do restrain yourself to a fifth of the pie, you will consume less than you would do at Wetherspoons as its dessert contains 718 kcal per portion.

NHS guidelines say an adult man should eat around 2,500 calories a day while it's 2,000 for a woman.

Aldi is also selling a huge 1kg jar of Nutella again for £3.99.

There are also three new flavoured gins you can try.

And the supermarket is causing a stir with new square-shaped sausages.
