EE is hiking broadband prices by £24 a year for hundreds of thousands of households
Customers who signed up or upgraded before February 29 are affected
HUNDREDS of thousands of EE customers will be hit with broadband hikes of £24 a year, the provider has announced.
Users who signed up or upgraded before February 29 will see their packages increase by £2 a month on average from June 27 - although the exact increase varies by customer.
EE wouldn't tell us exactly how many users are affected, only saying it's under one million but that's still hundreds of thousands of people.
The telecoms provider is emailing customers about the hike this week but the good news is that you can cancel your contract penalty free as a result.
You just need to call EE's customer service team on 0800 079 8586 from an EE landline, 150 from an EE mobile number or 0207 362 0200 from a different provider before June 26.
Those who joined the telecoms provider after February 29 aren't affected by the increases as their prices will have included the increase.
EE introduced a speedy new broadband that’s SIX TIMES faster than UK average last year but it appears customers are now paying the price for this upgrade.
It's the second blow for EE users in just a matter of months after the provider upped costs for mobile users by 2.7 per cent from March 31.
Loyal mobile users who've been with EE for more than five years will face separate hikes of 2.4 per cent from June 1.
But EE isn't the only broadband provider increasing prices with Sky upping bills by £42 a year from April 1.

A spokesperson for EE said: “We’re contacting some of our Home Broadband customers to let them know about changes we’re making to the cost of their plan which will take effect from June 26.
"Many of our customers will see no change at all, and the average increase for plans that are changing is £2 per month.
“We know price changes are never welcome, so we always try to keep costs down while continuing to invest in providing even faster, more reliable home broadband with the UK’s best service with 100 per cent UK and Ireland call centres.”
EE has also shaken up its mobile plans this month with "Smart Plans" that come with FREE BT Sport or Apple Music and Netflix data as "swappable" add-ons.
