We taste test eight cocktails in a can — but safely away from a train unlike Diane Abbott
The Shadow Home Secretary broke Transport for London rules by having a M&S Mojito on a train but who doesn’t love a cocktail in a can?
WANT a takeaway tipple but not sure which to try?
Here is our can-do guide.
We taste-tested eight tantalising tins after Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott was spotted swigging an M&S mojito on a train — and had to carry the can for breaking Transport for London rules.
Giulia Crouch lifts the lid on marvellous mixes and those best left on the shelf.
M&S Mojito, 250ml, £2.09
I wouldn’t drink this on the Overground or Underground or the 113 to Streatham station.
It’s way too sweet. For a mojito you need fresh mint.
“Mint flavouring” makes it tastes like toothpaste. Sorry, Diane.

Smirnoff & Cranberry Vodka Mixed Drink, 250ml, £1.99
Nothing to complain about here. Vodka cranberry doesn’t suffer from being pre-mixed and canned.
It reminds me of drinking at 18 so this is a great trip down memory lane.

Gordon's Pink Gin & Tonic, 250ml, £1.99
When I’m sick of drinking beer at a festival this is my go-to beverage.
Aficionados will sneer but G&T in a can is actually all right and this one gets extra points for being pink.
Rating: 5/5 - best.
All Shook Up Passion Fruit Martini, 250ml, £1.65
I was pleasantly surprised by this. I thought it would be sickly and syrupy but it is light, tropical and zesty.
The passion fruit tastes real and it’s very drinkable.

Pimm's No 1 & Lemonade, 250ml, £1.99
Part of the joy of Pimm’s is in the making.
I like digging out the most gigantic jug I can find, going overboard on the ice and even more so on the fruit.
With a can you get none of that. No fun.

Baileys Iced Coffee Latte, 200ml, £1.99
Confusing . . . when are you supposed to drink it? Not in the morning because it’s alcoholic, but I wouldn’t fancy a milky drink at an evening event either – and it won’t pair well with food.
Odd.

All Shook Up Espresso Martini, 250ml, £1.65
You know you’re in for a wild one if someone gets the espresso martinis in.
I was excited to hear you can now buy the cocktail in a can – but the acrid taste left me bitterly disappointed.

Jack Daniel's and Cola, 330ml, £2.20
It is what it is – a classic combo of the famous Tennessee whiskey and cola.
You can’t ask for much more – except a few cubes of ice.
Pour this one into a glass, kick back and enjoy.
