Brand new £242k Persimmon home has WONKY floors and walls leaving family devastated
Rob Lewis, 34, and his partner Carla bought their four-bed Persimmon home for £242,000 just under a year ago and already cracks are starting to appear
A DAD from Wales fears that he will have to move his family out of his new-build home while developers fix a string of problems including levelling the first floor and fixing wonky walls.
Rob Lewis, 34, and his partner Carla bought their four-bed house on a Persimmon development in North Port Talbot for £242,000 a year ago, but it's turned out to be a "nightmare".
The biggest builder in the UK, Persimmon has recently been named Britain's worst builder for the fourth year in a row for "shoddy workmanship".
The family told that the issues started from the day they moved in, when the shower started leaking through a hole in the bathroom floor.
Since then, it's been a "constant battle" for the family to get the problems fixed, such as wonky flooring, doors and dodgy tiling.
"At the moment, it just consumes our lives and sometimes I can't sleep at night. I have had to stop looking at my emails in the evening," Rob said.
"It has been the worst year of our lives - we would happily move. This is a lovely house when it is done properly but every day there is a new problem.
"We have been here for a year but we are still battling to get the basic stuff done."
The couple bought the house off-plan but didn't get the keys until April 2018, five months after it was supposed to be completed.
They began noticing issues with the building when they started adding their own touches to the home.
They spotted a gap between the fitted wardrobes and the door and that the en suite door wasn't level.
Rob , who's a software developer, said the upstairs toilet looked like the "leaning tower of Pisa", while his daughter, who was 18-months-old at the time, was able to pull one of the plug sockets from the living room wall.
He also claimed that there is damp coming through some of the windows, and that fence panels in the garden are in desperate need of replacing.
Surveyors have confirmed to the unhappy homeowners that the floor in the master bedroom and en suite isn't level adding that they were having a second visit to assess the rest of the house.
The property is still covered by a two-year warranty but the family fear that they will have to move out due to the extent of the work that needs to be done.
The family had planned to live in a hassle-free home for the foreseeable future but feel they can't even decorate it over fears they'll have to move out.
A spokesman for Persimmon Homes West Wales said: "We are aware of the issues in this customer’s home and are working with the LABC on the homeowner’s request to agree a way forward.
"The homeowner has challenged some of the findings within the independent report and a revisit has been arranged for this week to discuss this and other outstanding issues.

"Once the report has been agreed we are committed to carrying out any required works, plans for which are already partly in place.
"We have thousands of happy customers in Wales and are committed to ensuring every house is finished to a high standard."
It's not the first time Persimmon homes has come under fire from home buyers.
A frustrated first-time homeowner shared a stark warning to other buyers - in the form of a huge sign outside his new house.
Another couple living in a different Persimmon estate plastered their windows with posters warning potential buyers to stay away.
