WHAT A BANGER

Sainsbury’s is selling a giant 1.8metre sausage that is rolled up and easier to BBQ

MEAT eaters can really up their barbecue game this summer, as Sainsbury's launches a banger measuring 1.8 METRES.

The "BBQ sausage sqwirl" is rolled up around itself in a square spiral, which means it should be easy to cook on the barbie.

The 600g pork treat tastes of tomato, smoky paprika and chilli, and it's said to be enough for six people.

It's best enjoyed served up hot dog-style in a bun, together with salad and a dolop of coleslaw, the supermarket said.

The sausages will set you back £3.50 each when they hit Sainsbury's frozen aisles in stores this Sunday (April 7).

You'll also be able to order the bangers online from April 11, where they'll be available all summer.

The whole sausage contains 1,200 calories, or 200 calories per recommended portion.

The Sun has scanned the market for other giant sausages, and the one at Sainsbury's is currently the only one of its kind among the major supermarkets in the UK.

Rebecca Deeley, product developer for Sainsbury’s, said: "Our new BBQ Sqwirl is undoubtedly a showstopper for this season, and we think that no summer barbeque is truly complete without it.

"Those wanting to serve up a juicy sausage to family and friends this year can simply fire up the Barbie, place the sqwirl conveniently on it and then flip it over– which means no more chasing sausages around the grill."

The number of supersized products has really taken off lately. Last month, Aldi launched a giant caterpillar cake measuring a whopping 45cm.

Morrisons is also selling GIANT hot cross buns this Easter for only 35p.

Both supermarkets have previously also had a foot-long sausage price war.
