Lindt’s £8 WHITE chocolate Easter egg scoops top spot in Good Housekeeping blind taste test

AN £8 WHITE chocolate Easter egg has been crowned the best to buy this year in a blind taste test.

The Lindt egg on sale at Asda beat designer versions that cost up to £50 in Good Housekeeping Institute’s annual choc analysis – but not everyone will agree with the verdict.

White chocolate isn’t for everyone, but a panel of judges gave the 285g Lindt Lindor Irresistibly Smooth White egg the highest rating of 85/100 out of 226 Easter eggs tested.

Tasters praised Lindt for the treat’s “balanced sweetness, subtle caramel flavour and creamy truffles”.

In second place was Aldi’s £4.99 180g Moser Roth The Egg Box – a box of luxury mini chocolate eggs in dark, praline and salted caramel flavours.

It also came top of the little treats category in the blind taste test, with a score of 81/100.

KitKat’s Salted Caramel Chunky KitKat egg came joint third overall and topped the kids category

Waitrose
Waitrose’s £6 box of Assorted Chocolate Easter Eggs came joint third overall

Meanwhile, KitKat’s 516g Salted Caramel Fudge the Incredible Egg, which is on sale at Tesco for £10, topped the kids category.

It was joint third overall too with a score of 79/100.

It achieved the same rating as two Easter treats from Waitrose, including one shaped like a teapot from the Heston For Waitrose range costing £20.

The crown for the best milk chocolate egg was given to Thornton’s for itsMilk Chocolate, Hazelnut and Almond Easter Egg costing £12.90 for 321g.

At nearly £50 for 2kg of chocolate, this Cocoba egg rated highly but it’s also the most expensive

This £24.99 hand-painted egg by Booja Booja won in the Free From category

It scored 78/100 thanks to its “rich aroma and crunchy hazelnut pieces”.

In the Showstopper category, Cocoba’s Milk Chocolate Toffee Easter Egg scored 78/100 for its “deep milky flavour”.

But it will set you back between £11.95 for 250g up to £49.95 for 2kg.

The best novelty kids egg was Sainsbury’s £3 150g Bunny with Carrot, which charmed tasters with its smooth texture and caramelised flavour.

“In our biggest test yet, with prices from typically from £3 – £50, we know there’s something for everyone.

“From giant eggs with wow factor to boozy and free-from chocolate, we’ve seen some real innovation this year.”

You can now buy Ferrero Rocher mijni eggs in cocoa and hazelnut flavours and they sound delicious.

Aldi is also selling mini eggs and they’re dupes for popular brands including Oreo, Creme Egg, Kinder Bueno and Cadbury Caramel.

There are loads of exciting new Easter sweet treats on supermarket shelves this year, including a glittery pineapple “egg” at Morrisons.
