Tesco cuts Easter eggs to just 75p – where to buy them cheapest

The Sun investigates the cost of Easter chocolate at UK supermarkets to find the cheep-ist deals that will make you eggs-tatic.

TESCO has slashed the cost of its medium Easter eggs to just 75p.

Yesterday the eggs cost £1.50 each, but this morning Tesco launched its half price deal online.

The sale applies to 12 varieties of medium eggs including , , and .

Tesco’s sale means it is the cheapest place to buy medium eggs at the moment.

The offer is available online now, but won’t appear in stores until tomorrow.

So if you are thinking about buying eggs, it’s probably worth holding on for an eggstra day to take advantage of this cracking offer.

The second cheapest medium Easter eggs can be found at Asda, where they are selling for £1 each.

Asda’s price includes the the egg and the eggs, but is 25 per cent more expensive than at Tesco.

The most expensive medium eggs come from Iceland, where you’ll have to shell out a whopping £2.50 per egg.

That’s 150 per cent more than at Asda and 233 per cent more than the Tesco deal.

Best deals for small eggs

If you want to buy small Easter eggs (approximately 65g), these are all currently £1 at , , , and .

But with Tesco medium eggs (at least 122g) costing just 75p, you could get twice as much chocolate AND save 25 per cent.

Equally, at Asda by upgrading from small to medium you can can double your chocolate and spend the same.

In fact, unless a small egg is half the cost of a small one, it’s never a better deal.

So the only supermarket where going small would save you money per gram of chocolate is at Iceland.

If you’re an Aldi or Lidl shopper, it’s definitely worth checking in your local shop.

Neither have Easter eggs listed online yet, but we’d stake money on the discounters having some eggs-ceptional deals as we get closer to Easter.

With supermarkets changing prices weekly, it can be hard to keep track.

Here’s our top tips to make sure you get an eggs-cellent deal.

DO compare prices – Make sure you check all your local supermarkets to hunt out the best deals. If you know which egg you want, you can use to compare online.
DON’T be loyal – sticking with your usual shop out of habit can mean that you spend 200 per cent more for the exact same egg!
DO check Aldi and Lidl – these discounters are often great value for money, so don’t let the fact they haven’t got prices online put you off
DON’T assume cheap means good value – check the weights of your eggs and the cost per gram of chocolate. Sometimes deals mean you might get more for your money with a larger egg
DO use multiplyer deals – if you’ve got a few kids to buy for, take advantage of BOGOF or two for £X deals. This can massively cut the amount you pay

When it comes to large eggs, lots of the supermarkets are competitive.

Asda, Iceland, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s all have some large eggs (approx 210g) for £3 each.

At Tesco you’ll pay slightly more at £3.50, although they do have three luxury Thornton’s eggs in the sale.

You can get two for £5 on the , the and the .

So if you’re happy to buy those specific eggs, they are the cheapest you’ll find online.

If you’re shopping in the large, extra-large or luxury egg ranges, it’s easy to spend substantially more.

The cheapest egg at M&S online costs a whopping £12.00. But the supermarket does have a wider range in store.

But even at more affordable supermarkets, some eggs will set you back £10 or more.

Tesco have a range of large and extra large eggs costing £12, and there most expensive offering – a – costs £15.

Likewise, at Saisbury’s the most expensive egg – a – costs £16. But there are a range of luxury and extra large offerings priced at £14.
