Keep your finances in ship-shape when you’re next booking a cruise with our tips – plus Sun Superdays are back
CRUISING through winter and dreaming of sunshine?
Well, the good news is we’re in the middle of “Wave Season”, which typically runs from January until March and gives cruise lovers the chance to bag a bargain trip.
The Sun’s Travel Editor Lisa Minot says: “With so much included in the price, a cruise is a great way to holiday without having to worry about splashing out. Add to that the chance to enjoy food all day without paying any extra and it’s a great deal for families. Kids love eating when and where they fancy!”
So, whether you’ve already booked a trip or are looking to set sail, these top tips will keep your wallet ship-shape while at sea . . .
TOP TIP: Tipping culture on cruises can add pounds to your bill. Before you embark, check whether or not gratuities for cabin and dining staff are automatically added to your bill. Some cruise lines even charge an amount to your on-board account each day — so this is worth keeping an eye on. Where possible, choose a company that includes tips in the basic price, for example TUI’s Marella Cruises and P&O offer all-inclusive packages which include this.
DIY DAY TRIPS: Excursions sold on board can be costly, but finding your own alternative to the expensive half-day or full-day excursions can save you dosh. Try booking through a private company such as or arranging your own tours, using taxis.
