The best pink fizz revealed
SUN man Nick Pritchard asked booze expert Jilly Goolden to pick out the best blushing wines:
Overall winner - Tesco Champagne Premier Cru Rosé £19, 10/10
Jilly said: “‘Premier Cru’ indicates that this is a quality bottle - the label means it is made from some of the top grapes the Champagne region produces.
“Even Moet and Veuve Clicquot cannot boast they are made of only the best grapes.
“It smells so creamy and alluring. It is like croissants spread with blackcurrant jam - the wine has a buttery and fruity smell.
“The flavour is biscuity, like crumbled digestives, with lovely pure dark berries.
“This is quintessential great Champagne, at an affordable price. If you don’t get the boy or get the girl with this one, there is no hope.”
Best bargain buy - Co-op Irresistible Sparkling Rosé £8 - 9/10
Jilly said: “It is a gloriously pale pink - just the hint of a tint.
“It smells a bit like hay and straw, at first it doesn’t have that fruity allure.
“But this is much more of a statement wine, with generous mouth-filling flavours - like the centre of strawberry chocolates.
“It is attractive and moreish. It’s very seductive, which is what you would want on Valentine’s Day.
“A classy fizz at a brilliant price.”
Runner-up - M&S Graham Beck 'The Rhona' Brut Rosé, NV £15 - 8/10
Jilly said: “The wine is the perfect shade of shell pink and the bottle looks fabulous.
“When you lock eyes with a loved one and twirl your arms around each other you probably won’t be paying much attention to the smell of it - I wouldn’t bother, it is dull.
“But when you taste it, it has a richness. It tastes like lots of lovely squashed fruits.
“It is almost like a sparkling white wine which has loads of whizzed up dark fruit added to it - delicious.”
Bollinger Special Cuvée Brut - - £33.50
Bollinger is famous for its consistency of style, structure and aromatic complexity, apparently.
Surprisingly, the best deal on a bottle of Bolly is at Waitrose, where you can pick it up for £33.50 down from £45 - a saving of 25 per cent.
It's part of a wider sale on bubbly and wine for Valentine's Day which is on until February 19.
The next cheapest bottle is sold at Asda for a discounted £34 down from £44 as part of a rollback deal.
Taittinger Brut Reserve NV Champagne - - £35
Taittinger is one of the few Champagne houses still owned and managed by the family whose name appears on the label.
Unfortunately, we can't find any discounts on the famous bottle at supermarkets yet.
The cheapest you can pick it up for is £35 at Tesco.
The next lowest price for the fizz is £36 at Morrisons and Waitrose.
Veuve Cliquot Label NV Champagne - - £39
The leading Champagne house of Veuve Clicquot is one of the best known brands and would really impress your love this Valentine's.

The cheapest bottle is at Tesco, which is selling the Champagne for £39.
The next cheapest price is £40 at Sainsbury's and Waitrose.
The cheapest Prosecco - - £5.25

You can pick up a bottle for just over a fiver too at Lidl, which has the cheapest bottle of any supermarket that we could find.
Its Allini Prosecco Frizzante - which means it's only lightly sparkling compared to fizzier "spumante" - costs just £5.25.
The discount supermarket describes this bottle as "simple and uncomplicated" with a "lovely freshness and fruitiness".
It's only available in stores though.
The next cheapest own-brand Prosecco we could find was Aldi's £5.49 Castellore Prosecco Frizzante.
