Some seriously lucky people have ended up making hundreds of pounds from flogging valuable coins after spotting then in their change.

But the truth it, it's only worth what a collector will pay for it.

This new eBay tracker tool will give you an estimated valuation of your coin based on the average of the most recent sales, as well as a range of how much you can expect it to fetch.

The creators argue that this will give you a better understanding of how much your coin is likely to sell for, rather than the most a similar coin has ever sold for.

What are the most valuable 50p coins?

HAVE a rummage through the change in your pocket for rare 50p coins because they could be worth a small fortune.

Kew Gardens, up to £160

This rare commemorative coin was created in 2009 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of London’s Kew Gardens. Only  210,000 of these coins were issued and a quick check online shows up that a circulated coin with this design sold for  after it got 25 bids.

Sir Isaac Newton, up to £77

At first, just 375 of the  Sir Isaac Newton coins were released into the tills at Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, the birthplace and home of the famous scientist, but more of the coins were slowly released into circulation - adding up to a total of 1.8million. The majority of these coins are still boxed in protective packaging and they're selling for around .

Jemima Puddle Duck, up to £13.50

There are only 2.1million of these coins in circulation and one of the coins recently sold for 27 times its value at .

Suffragettes, up to £7.50

There are currently 3.1million of the coins in circulation. Recently, one coin that had been in circulation fetched - that's 15 times its face value.

WWF, up to £4.50

There are 3.4million coins in circulation and they are hugely popular amongst collectors. We found one that was recently .

Britannia, up to £1.81

Britannia was replaced by the new Royal Shield in 2008 as the standard 50p design, and none have been issued since, making the ones minted in that year valuable to collectors. Only 3.5million were issued into circulation and one recently sold on .

For example, we have previously reported how a Kew Gardens 50p coin sold for £160 on the auction site but the tool reckons you should actually only expect to get about £12.24 for it.

The tool will also show you that one of the latest listing sold for £99.65 but the one before that only sold for £2.90.

Overall, they reckon you can expect to fetch between £5.65 to £95.65 - which they feel is a realistic expectation.

Because the tool is monitoring eBay sales in real time which means the average prices shown in the tool constantly change to give you the most up to date estimate.

All 64 commemorative 50p coins currently in circulation are listed on the website and all you need to do is click on the one that you want to know the value of.

You will then be brought to a page that shows you all of the most recently sold eBay listings of that particular coin.

It's not the only coin tracker available - ChangeChecker.org launched own eBay league table this time last year.

The tool tracks the last nine sold prices on eBay to give you an average but it's only updated every six months.

Of course, how much you'll get for your coin depends on the condition that it's in - one that is in a near mint condition will fetch more at an auction than one without.

You'll need to bear in mind too that these are just estimates as no one can guarantee a price when you list something online unless you put it on with a fixed price.

Have you got a 50p coin that might be worth a small fortune? We've put together a roundup of the rarest and most valuable 50p coins so that you can check your change.
