Cadbury white Creme Egg hunt branded ‘annoying’ and ‘stupid’ by shoppers due to unwrapped chocolate

Nearly 800 white chocolate treats are hidden in normal Creme Egg wrappers and people have to search for them in shops

SUPERMARKET staff and shoppers have been accused of unwrapping Creme Eggs and putting them back on the shelf as people hunt for a white version worth up to £10,000.

In a repeat of last year's scramble to find a white Creme Egg hidden amongst milk chocolate ones, customers have been complaining on social media that the treats have had their foil peeled back.

Nearly 800 white chocolate treats have been hidden in normal Creme Egg wrappers in supermarkets including Tesco and Asda - and this year, the cash rewards for finding them are even bigger.

There are eight £10,000 prizes up for grabs if you find one in a shop, as well as several £1,000 rewards.

Cadbury is encouraging shoppers to buy its fondant-filled chocolates to see if they will find a white one.

But customers are instead peeling back the foil to check without buying them and then just putting them back on the shelf, according to disgruntled chocolate fans.

They've called the hunt "stupid" and "annoying" for anyone who wants to enjoy an unmolested Easter treat.

It's a shame because there's actually a clever way to check if you have a white chocolate version without unwrapping it.

Usually, the ingredients list on a normal Creme Eggs says it's made with "milk chocolate".

It means you will be able to tell if you have a white one by looking for a wrapper that says "white chocolate" instead.

But unfortunately this hasn't stopped people from unwrapping the treats in shops to try and find one.
