ARGOS is urgently warning parents to stop using one of its own brand duvets for cots over fears that it could cause babies to overheat.

Argos has issued the recall notice for the Argos Washable 4.0 Tog Duvet Cotbed on the Trading Standards website.

It read: "It has come to our attention that the level of insulation provided by this duvet exceeds the specified rating.

"This may cause an infant to overheat. Stop using the duvet immediately."

Overheating can make babies become uncomfortable, suffer from disrupted sleep and cause a rash.

In more serious cases, overheating can even cause "cot death".

The duvets were on sale for £15 each both in store and online - they have since been removed from both outlets.

They have a batch number of 790/3076, but Argos is  yet to confirm how many are being recalled and exactly when they were on sale.

You won't need to bring your receipt or any other proof of purchase when returning the duvet.

An Argos spokesperson told The Sun that the potential risk was discovered during routine product safety testing.

They added: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Matalan has also recalled a hat and mittens set over fears it may cause a choking hazard for children.

Meanwhile, Ikea has urgently recalled extendable tables due to fears they could collapse and cause injuries.
