Tesco cuts the price of hundreds of products in fresh supermarket price war

The retailer is celebrating its 100 anniversary in 2019 by reducing prices on hundreds of branded and own-brand items

TESCO shoppers can bag discounts on hundreds of products this month as the supermarket cuts prices both online and in stores.

The retailer reaches its 100 anniversary in 2019, and to celebrate, it's reducing prices on branded and own-brand items.

Products that have been discounted include Cathedral City, Heinz, and PG Tips.

Discounts range to more than half price (54 per cent).

Of the 10 discounts The Sun has been told about, Tesco's sales prices beat rival stores' Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's.

Morrisons kicked off the price war by cutting the price of hundreds of products by 20 per cent earlier today.

What items is Tesco cutting prices on?

HERE'S a selection of products Tesco is cutting the price on - and how they compare to Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's:

  • Birds Eye Fish Fingers Omega3 18 x 504g. Now: £1.50. Was: £3. Save: £1.50 (50 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets. 
  • Cathedral City Mature Cheddar, 550g. Now: £2.75. Was: £5.50. Save: £2.75 (50 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets.
  • Kit Kat 2 Fingermilk Chocolate Biscuits, 9 pack. Now: 90p. Was: £1.99. Save: £1.09 (50 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets. 
  • L’Oreal Elvive Dream Lengths Hair Shampoo & Conditioner, 500ml. Now: £2.50. Was: £5.50. Saving: £3 (54 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets.
  • Magnum Classic and White Ice Cream, 4 x 100g. Now: £1.50. Was: £3.20. Save: £1.70 (save 53 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets.
  • Muller Corner (selected varieties, 6 x 135g). Now: £1.75. Was: £3.50. Save: £1.75 (50 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets. 
  • Nescafé Gold Blend, 200g. Now: £4. Was: £7.49. Save: £3.49 (47 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets. 
  • PG Tips, 200s. Now: £2.80. Was: £5.60. Saving: £2.80 (50 per cent). We couldn't find this sized box of teabags at any of the major supermarkets.
  • Quavers, 12 x 16G. Now: £1.47. Was: £2.95. Save: £1.48 (50 per cent). This is the cheapest price we found at the major supermarkets. 
  • Tesco The Deli Family Pack Cooked Ham Slices, 425g. Now: £2. Was: £4. Save: £2 (50 per cent). This is an own-brand product but it was the cheapest price we could find for similar types of meat at other supermarkets.

But Morrisons' could be beaten on price in four of the 11 example offers given.

However, you'll need to go quick if you want to snap up Tesco's discounts as most are due to finish at the end of January.

Tesco is having a HUGE sale on Lego – and bargain hunters are loving it.

The supermarket has also slashed the price of Celebrations and Quality Street tubs to £2.50.

Meanwhile, Tesco, Wilko and Co-op have all cut the price of Christmas chocolate, including Milk Tray for 50p.
