Yesterday an estimated 27 million people - half the adults in the UK - joined in on the retail blitz but there are still plenty of good deals to be had.

Twice as much money was spent on Boxing Day than Black Friday last year, while the period between Christmas Day and New Year generated £12billion in sales, according to ShopperTrak.

But it pays to do your research BEFORE you hit the shops. Firstly, make a list of the items that you want or need and set yourself a budget.

Then check prices online to find out which shop is selling the item you want cheapest.

Use price tracking websites like CamelCamelCamel, PriceSpy and PriceHistory to check the price is the lowest it has been for the last 12 months.
