CRACKING DEAL

Morrisons is selling a Scotch egg PIE for £3 and it sounds delicious

The pie has a breadcrumb topping just like the outside of the classic picnic treat

WE'RE not telling porkies - Morrisons is now selling a Scotch egg pie.

The supermarket has turned the classic picnic treat into a giant pork pie costing £3 for four people - and we want to tuck in right now.

The pie - which is only available in stores, not online - is topped with a crispy breadcrumb coating just like the outside of a Scotch egg.

Inside, it's a classic pork pie with a whole hard-boiled egg inside surrounded by hot water crust pastry.

Traditionally, Scotch eggs are a soft or hard-boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, coated with breadcrumbs and then deep-fried.

It's not unusual for pork pies to contain an egg and they're often called "gala" pies.

But Morrisons has decided to cleverly re-name the pie after one of its most popular treats, the Scotch egg, to tempt families this Christmas.

Morrisons sold 500,000 Scotch eggs from its deli counters in the run-up to Christmas last year.

It sold even more pork pies, with two million sold last Christmas, according to the supermarket.

Gala pies normally contain chicken too, whereas this pie just contains pork.

It's not known how many calories the pork-packed pie contains but we've asked Morrisons and we'll update this story if we hear back.

Morrisons Deli spokesman, Dan Barrett, said: ";The combination of the crisp breadcrumbs, pork filling and egg is magic - it will be a talking point at any Boxing Day buffet."

The pies will be on sale at Morrisons' deli counters until December 28.

Morrisons also has a deal on Champagne at the moment, as it's selling a bottle of award-winning fizz for £10.
