MILLIONS of pay monthly O2 customers affected by this week's outage will get two day's worth of use for free - but this could amount to as little as just 87p for some.

O2 has confirmed that pay monthly customers - including small business and mobile broadband users - will be credited with the equivalent cost of two day's worth of their airtime plan.

O2 has announced its customer redress scheme

It comes after 25million O2 customers were left without data for nearly 24 hours, while some couldn't send text messages this morning.

But affected customers may get back less than £1 and some aren't happy about it.

If your mobile plan is £13 a month, for example - which is reportedly O2's cheapest airtime plane - as there are 31 days in December, you'd get back just 84p.

Pay £20 month, and you'd get around £1.40.

O2 says this will be credited by the end of January onto your monthly mobile bill.

One Twitter user called Stepher wrote: "That’s about £2 for me then, ‘thanks’ - a free gig of data rolling over would be better. Come on O2 sort it out".

Another said: "My wife is on payg with you. She doesn’t use data just old fashioned texts. Every message she sent yesterday sent multiple times and consequently drained her balance.

"The compensation isn’t adequate. Effectively give you £25 to get £2.50 back."

But others have said they'd rather the compensation went to charity. A Twitter user called James tweeted: "I lived comfortably during the outage.

"Instead of compensation, please make a contribution to @centrepointuk #passiton"

Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) mobile users will get a 10 per cent credit on a top-up in the new year, while PAYG mobile broadband customers will get a 10 per cent discount on a bolt on purchase in the new year.

Your rights when your network goes down

WHEN your network goes down, it's your mobile provider's responsibility to fix the problem.

If you feel the outage caused you significant problems or you waited a long time for the repairs to take place, it's worth complaining and asking for a refund on your bill or compensation.

To complain, you need to follow your provider's formal complaints procedure. Details should be available on its website or from its customer services.

If your problem is still unresolved after eight weeks you can submit your complaint to an independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme.

Ofcom has approved two ADR schemes - and .

Your provider will tell you which scheme it is a member of.

O2 says it will notify PAYG customers when these deals will be available and adds that there will be no limit on the value of top-ups.

The Sun has asked if there will be a time limit for PAYG to redeem the offer and we'll update the story as soon as we hear back.

An O2 spokesperson said: "We’d once again like to thank our customers for their patience. We’re doing all we can to make sure this issue doesn’t happen again.";

If you're one of the 7million people with a provider that piggybacks on O2's network, such as GiffGaff, Lycamobile, Sky Mobile, and Tesco Mobile this compensation will not apply.

Sky Mobile has already confirmed that customers will get free unlimited data tomorrow.

While - it will email all customers in the coming days.

Lycamobile, and Tesco Mobile are yet to announce if they have any redress plans. We'll update this news story as soon as we hear anything.
