THAT'S THE SPIRIT

Morrisons is selling your favourite Christmas tipple for £15 a litre bottle this week

Shoppers can save up to £7.50 on giant bottles of Gordon's, Smirnoff, Bell's and Three Barrels

NOW'S the time to stock up on booze for Christmas because Morrisons is selling litre bottles of spirits for £15 - the cheapest supermarket price.

The chain has slashed prices on big brands like Gordon's, Smirnoff, Bell's and Captain Morgan's ahead of the festive season saving you up to £7.50.

We've taken a closer look and found that prices at Morrisons are the cheapest on the high street so it's worth cashing in if you can.

The biggest saving to be had is on a bottle of Three Barrels Rare Old French Brandy which would normally cost £22.50, shaving £7.50 off your bill.

The next cheapest price we could find this bottle of plonk was from Asda where it is on offer for £18 - but that's still £3 more expensive.

There are also decent savings to be had on litre bottles of Famous Grouse Whisky which is down from £22, and Bombay Dry Gin which usually costs £21.

Shoppers will also save a fiver on Captain Morgan Spiced Rum and Baracardi White Rum.

It's the cheapest price we could find for both spirit's that size, although they are both currently on offer at Sainsbury's, Tesco and Ocado for £16.

Smaller savings are to be had on bottles of Gordon's gin, which are down from £16 in Morrisons, although we couldn't find them cheaper anywhere else.

The supermarket has been price matched by Sainsbury's on bottles of Greenall's London Dry Gin although £15 is still the cheapest price for the booze out there.

Morrisons is running discounts on alcohol online but shoppers are better off heading to their local branch for cheaper prices as disappointingly, the £15 deal is in-store only.

The deal is running for two weeks from December 3 to December 16 so you'll save the most money by stocking up in advance.

Morrisons isn't the only store slashing the prices of alcohol. Asda has also dropped the price of a litre of Bailey's to £10 down from £20.

Here's how to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from Hannah Maundrell, editor of Money.co.uk, about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards
