Parents were spotted brawling in the aisles to make sure they got their hands on one, despite Aldi limiting customers to only buying two each.

It's the third year in a row that the discounter has sold the toys but this year's collection included a giant version of Kevin, which stands at a metre tall, and cost £19.99 each.

But some sly shoppers are hoping to cash in on the toys by trying to flog them for hundreds of pounds online.

One recently sold for as much as after attracting 31 bids - that's five times the original price.

Others have sold for at least three times their original price tag, with one toy fetching , while another sold for .

The toys are being listed on the auction site for up to hundreds and one seller even claims to have sold the toy for after attracting 24 bids.

But this toy ended up being relisted which means that the winning bidder didn't stump up the cash and the figure is totally unrealistic.

It's not just the giant version of Kevin that is helping sellers turn a profit.

A full family of cuddly carrots, including the smaller Kevin, Katie and the kids, the tree decoration, mug, story book, activity book, wrapping paper, and Pascal the parsnip sold for , even though it would have only cost £48.90 from the store.

A normal sized Kevin the carrot toy is worth up to £51 on the auction site, while Kevin, Katie and the kids are selling for around the same price.

When they were released, Aldi said that it had "increased the range" as well as the amount of soft toys available in each stores.

But that didn't stop disappointed shoppers complaining on Twitter that there weren't enough on display.

One customer pleaded with the supermarket to stock more of the toys online while others shared screen grabs of the website not loading.

Aldi brought back Kevin the Carrot to star in this year's Christmas advert featuring a Coca-Cola-inspired truck.

In the first advert, the star was almost doomed after he teetered on a cliff edge following a crash with the vehicle.

But fans were delighted as the supermarket later released another advert showing the star alive and well - and defeating the evil, rotten parsnip called Pascal in a fairytale-inspired story.

Aldi began stocking toy versions of the Christmas ad characters following John Lewis' success in 2014 when it sold Monty The Penguin.

This year, the retailer is expecting parents to splash out far more on the "perfect gift" this Christmas - a piano.

The 2018 John Lewis advert starring Sir Elton John and titled The Boy and the Piano has inspired the department store to stock the musical instruments for a huge £872.

But fans of an even more heartbreaking Christmas advert made for just £50 are calling on the store to hire him for next year.

Aldi's Kevin the Carrot Christmas advert is back - and he's on an adventure
