A PETROL station is charging 154.9p per litre for diesel — the highest price in the UK ever.
Drivers at the Moto services off the A1(M) at Washington, Tyne & Wear, fork out up to £80 to fill up — despite oil prices FALLING.
The price per litre is 18p more than the average charged last week at the UK’s 8,400 garages. The previous national record for diesel was 148p in April 2012.
Petrol at the service station is 146.9p a litre — also 18p more than the average.
Simon Williams of the RAC said: “It’s hard to justify.”
Experts say diesel often rises in price at this time of year as it’s made from the same oil used in central heating systems. But last week oil prices sank to $52 a barrel, an eight-month low.
