Lidl recalls three types of Pâté with missing use-by dates
Shoppers need to look out for Lidl's Warren & Sons Brussels Pâté, Warren & Sons Reduced Fat Brussels Pâté, and Warren & Sons Ardennes Pâté
LIDL is recalling three types of pate after it found they have incorrect or missing use-by dates.
This poses a health risk to shoppers as they could inadvertently eat the pate after the date by which it can be safely consumed.
Shoppers need to look out for Lidl's Warren & Sons Brussels Pâté, Warren & Sons Reduced Fat Brussels Pâté, and Warren & Sons Ardennes Pâté.
The offending pates all weigh 175g each and have a use by date of December 25, 2019 or no use by date at all.
If you have bought the products, the Food Standards Agency advises that you don't eat them.
Instead, you should return the product to the store from where it was bought for a full refund - with or without a receipt.
Your product recall rights
PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.
As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.
But it's often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.
If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.
When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you - the customer - to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don't there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.
If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.
They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.
In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full redund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.
You should not be charged for any recall work - such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.
Lidl won't tell us how many pates have the misprinted labels but it says it's only a "small batch" and that the national recall is a precaution.
In a statement, the retailer said: "We have been notified by our supplier of a printing error on the packaging of a small batch of our Warren and Sons Pate.
"As such, we are recalling any items that feature either the use by date of 25.12.2019 or no use by date. We advise any customers that have bought this item not to eat it, and to return it to a Lidl store for a full refund.
"We would like to reassure our customers that Lidl only works with reputable, accredited suppliers, who have strict controls and procedures in place to ensure that our products meet the high standards expected by both ourselves and our customers.
"We are, therefore, very sorry that this was not the case on this occasion and are in close communication with the supplier on this matter."
