IF you're planning to treat yourself to a wholesome sandwich or two this weekend, you may want to visit Morrisons where it's selling a GIANT tiger loaf.

The 1kg whopper costs £1 and is available in more than 90 per cent of Morrisons stores from now until Sunday.

Morrisons says the loaf, which is made from scratch in stores, is 25 per cent larger than its usual 800g tiger loaf and costs 10p less.

Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco all sell 800g tiger loaves but they cost a pricier £1 at Asda and £1.10 at Sainsbury's and Tesco.

Tiger bread has an orange coloured mottled top, which takes place when the loaf's coating cracks during baking.

Morrisons wouldn't reveal what coating it uses, but reports suggest tiger bread is typically covered in sesame oil or rice paste.

Sainsbury's renamed its tiger bread giraffe bread a few years ago when one young shopper pointed out that the loaf's cracked effect looked more like a giraffe's patterned skin than a tiger's stripes.
