SAINSBURY'S has urgently recalled its in-store bakery All Butter Croissants - because they contain nuts that could trigger deadly allergic reactions.
The pastries contain an almond filling that isn't declared on the packaging.
The recall is for all individual 70p Sainsbury's bakery All Butter Croissants and £1.10 twin packs with best before dates up to and including September 26.
No other Sainsbury's products are known to be affected.
Sainsbury's is asking any customer who has bought the croissants to return them to their local store. They will receive a full refund.
It has also contacted allergy support organisations, which will tell its members about the recall.
There will also be signs in stores to warn shoppers.
A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “We are urgently investigating with our supplier following a report that the product may contain almonds.
"We’re asking customers who have an allergy to almonds to not consume the product and return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.
"No other Sainsbury’s products are affected and we’re sorry for any concern and inconvenience this may cause.”
It's thought that only a few "isolated" croissants contain the almond filling, but Sainsbury's said it was recalling all products because it isn't "willing to take risks where the safety of our customers is concerned".
The Sun has asked Sainsbury's how many stores the croissants were sold in and we will update the story if we get a response.
