Funeral price war set to erupt as Co-op cuts the cost of its basic service and vows to beat quotes from rivals
The company will cut the price of its 'simple' funeral by £100, to £1,895, plus burial and cremation fees

A FUNERAL price war is set to erupt as the Co-op today lowers the cost of its basic service and vows to beat quotes from rivals.
It will cut the price of its “simple” funeral by £100, to £1,895, plus burial and cremation fees.
The average cost is nearly £4,000.
The Co-op — the market’s biggest player with 1,000 outlets carrying out 100,000 funerals a year — is also committing to beat like-for-like quotes.
It is cutting prices after it found that as many as four million Brits suffered financial hardship after a bereavement.
The Co-op’s Robert Maclachlan, said: “We’ve seen a huge shift in the number of clients seeking affordable funeral choices.”
