A NEW app that tracks how much you use your phone could save you up to £92 a year on your phone bill by alerting you to better deals.
monitors your mobile usage before letting you know if there's a better deal out there for you.
The average Brits overpay by up to £92 a year for their mobile phone contract, according to figures from HandsetExpert.com.
This is because they're forking out extra for data, minutes and texts that they don't use.
In fact, the average mobile phone user pays for 3.4GB of data that they never use every month, reports USwitch.
Yboo app aims to get you a better deal by identifying how much you use your phone and then recommends a deal that's more suited.
HOW TO CUT YOUR MOBILE BILL
FIRSTLY, decide if you’re happy with your current deal and whether you want a new deal or handset - or both.
If you’re outside the minimum term of your contract then you can leave penalty free - and you might be able to find a cheaper deal elsewhere.
Pay-as-you-go deals are better for people who don’t regularly use their phone, while monthly contracts usually work out cheaper for those who do.
The best way to find a new deal is by checking comparison websites, such as MoneySupermarket and uSwitch.com, which compare tariffs and handset prices.
It’s also worth trying Billmonitor, it matches buyers to the best pay-monthly deal based on their previous three months of bills.
It only works if you’re a customer of EE, O2, Three, Vodafone or Tesco Mobile and you’ll need to log in with your online account details.
MobilePhoneChecker has a bill monitoring feature that recommends a tariff based on your monthly usage.
If you’re happy with your provider then it might be worth using your research to haggle a better deal.
The app works by monitoring your phone for 24 hours working out how much you use your mobile for calls, texts, data and wifi usage.
It runs in the background while you continue to use your phone as normal - it won't interfere with them.
The app then recommends deals to you and it will also help you to switch by talking you through everything you need.
The app is free to download but it makes money from the network providers if you choose to take out a deal via their recommendation.
So while they feature every UK network it's worth bearing in mind that they may be offering you a deal that you might not be able to find elsewhere.
The app offers sim-only deals and excludes combined tariffs which include the handset but it is something the company is hoping to develop in the future.
If your phone contract is coming up or you're already on a sim-only tariff then it's an easy way to find a deal that is better value for money.
But if you're on a contract that included the handset then you'll need to wait until you've paid that off first before taking advantage of the sim-only deals, or risk paying an early exit fee from your existing contract.
Of course, switching isn't the only way to get better value for money.
Some contracts with EE and iD mobile allow you to rollover data that you haven't used to the next month.
