The petition originally started two years ago, but it has exploded back into the public consciousness this week with people commenting that the maize based snack is "the don of crisps".

Wotsits, which are produced by crisp giant Walkers, are currently only available in the UK in the "Really Cheesy" flavour.

A 22.5g packet contains just 123 calories.

But unfortunately, there's bad new for you prawn cocktail Wotists crunchers and melters out there.

The best of the rest

Prawn cocktail Wotsits might not be making a comeback, but there are plenty of other prawn cocktail crisps to munch on. Here's our pick of the rest.

  1. Skips - The tingly melt-in-your mouth tapioca based discs of joy are a childhood classic.
  2. Walkers Prawn Cocktail - With an excellent crunch and a delicous flavour, these crisps are a timeless treat.
  3. Tyrells Posh Prawn Cocktail crisps - We haven't tried these hand-cooked crisps but they've got the word "posh" in them so they're bound to be good.
  4. Seabrook Prawn Cockatil - Again, we've not tried these crinkle-cut crisps, but they promise that "prawn cocktail is an attitude more than it is a crisp".

A Wotsits spokesperson told The Sun online: "We currently don't have any plans to reintroduce this flavour but we always love hearing suggestions from our fans."

But perhaps not all hope is lost, as Walkers does state on its website that it continuously reviews its range.

Plus Walkers isn't averse to launching new products, its new Poppables crisp range came out this year in sweet chilli, BBQ rib and cheddar cheese.

Wotsits didn't cut the mustard when the world's best crisps were revealed earlier this summer.

Walkers launches SIX new crisp flavours to mark its 70th anniversary – and the flavours are classics
