Tesco shoppers baffled as some stores already selling Christmas chocolate selection boxes

Shoppers have already spotted tubs of Quality Street and Heroes piled high in their local Tesco stores and they cost £5 each

SHOPPERS have already spotted festive treats on the shelves in Tesco FOUR months before Christmas.

Boxes of Quality Street and Heroes are piled high near the tills and selling for a fiver - although that isn't much cheaper than what they cost in December.

Revellers normally tuck in to the big tubs of choccies during the festive season but it looks like branches of Tesco Extra is already cashing in.

One shopper shared a snap of the tins piled high at the Willow Brook Centre in Bristol, while more have also been spotted in Weston-Super-Mare and Ballymoney.

The boxes of winter-themed Heroes are decorated with a snowy scene while Brits are still basking in the summer heatwave in some parts of the UK.

The sweets have been getting a mixed reaction, with some shoppers horrified that the countdown has begun in August, while others are excited that it's already started.

One shopper tweeted: "Good news! Quality Street tins have arrived at Tesco Ballymoney. Happy Christmas everyone!"

Another agreed and wrote: "Tesco are now selling Celebration & Heroes boxes. It’s finally Christmas."

One user seized the opportunity to wish her followers good tidings by writing: "Tesco are selling the big chocolate Christmas tins. Nah this year is flying by. Can’t believe it’s Christmas already, merry Christmas everyone x"

But not everyone was impressed. A frustrated tweeter wrote: "Haven't even finished buying school uniforms for September and Tesco have already got Christmas tins of Quality Street and Celebrations out" followed by distressed emojis.

Others thought that now that Brits are enjoying a splash of rain, Tesco is cashing in on the end of the heatwave.

Stacie wrote: "I feel like Tesco's train of thought must have been 'The heatwave is over, it's raining, time to get the Christmas chocolates out."

It might feel like Tesco has got ahead of the game even earlier this year but they actually stocked the sweets in August last year too.

Some savvy shoppers won't need to buy any of the tins this year because they managed to stock up on them in January when Tesco was selling them for a mouthwatering £1.25.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "It’s a fair few months until customers are able to choose from our full range of Christmas products.

"However, as we know some customers like to start their shopping well in advance, we have started selling a small selection of festively themed chocolates in some of our stores."

Quality Street is made by Nestle and comes in a whole range of different sizes ranging from 900g to 1.5kg.

Scientists have confirmed that there are less of the chocs that everyone likes in each tin - namely the purple and green ones - and an abundance of the widely disliked fudge one.

There are also a lot of lesser liked toffee pennies floating about in every tin, closely followed by the Marmite-like options of orange cream, coconut eclair and strawberry delight.
