Tesco cuts 10p per litre off fuel prices – but you need to spend £60 on groceries first

It's good news for drivers as petrol prices rose to their highest level in three years in January.

According to the latest figures from the AA, diesel prices have increased by 3.4p to 131.7 per litre in June. While petrol prices have gone up from 3.3p to 128.8 per litre.

Tesco is offering the deal to customers who spend the money in stores or online between August 6 and August 26.

Shoppers who spend at least £60 will be issued vouchers which they can then claim back when they pay for their fuel.

Three ways to cut down your fuel costs

HERE are three ways to cut down your fuel costs

  1. Make your car more fuel-efficient. You can do this by keeping your tyres inflated, taking the roof rack off, emptying your car of clutter and turning off your air con when driving at lower speeds.
  2. Find the cheapest fuel prices. Use PetrolPrices.com. All you need to do is enter in your postcode and tell it how far you want to travel (up to 20 miles)
  3. Drive more efficiently. Some ways to do this, include:
  • Accelerate gradually without over-revving
  • Always drive on the highest possible gear
  • If you can, allow your car to slow down naturally as your brake is a money burner
  • Re-starting your car is expensive, if you can, keep moving

The coupons will be valid for two weeks after they were purchased. So if you get the vouchers on the last day of the offer, you'll have until September 9  to claim them.

While it's a good deal if you are already spending £60 at the supermarket it might not be the cheapest price for fuel in your area.

You can check the cheapest prices by comparing the pumps in your local area for free via .

It allows you to do 20 free searches on petrol stations near you to see who has the best rates.

will also give you 20 free searches a week on a free account but only cover around 7,000 UK petrol stations.

PUMP PAIN What is the petrol price today, why is the cost of fuel per litre rising and will it increase even further?

The price of petrol at the pump rocketed by a “hellish” 6p a litre in May – the biggest monthly rise for 18 years, according to the RAC.

The increase was blamed on a hike in oil prices, as well as the weakening of the pound against the dollar.
