Lidl is selling a fitness tracker for just £25 – a quarter of the price of a Fitbit

IF you’re looking for a fitness tracker but you don’t want to pay the hefty price tag, Lidl’s latest deal might be just what you’re looking for.

The budget supermarket is selling an activity tracker for £24.99 and it’s £75 cheaper than a Fitbit Alta Wireless Activity and Sleep tracker, which usually costs around £99.99.

Like a Fitbit, the supermarket’s product can measure the number of calories you’ve burned throughout the day and how many steps you’ve taken

Millions of Brits wear smartwatches that track their fitness and which encourage you to rack up 10,000 steps a day – but they often come at a price.

Like a Fitbit, Lidl’s product can measure the number of calories you’ve burned throughout the day and how many steps you’ve taken as well as your sleep duration.

The water-resistant bracelet also connects you to a free health app via Bluetooth in a bid to help customers to stay active this summer.

Once it is synced with your smartphone you’ll also be able to receive call and text alerts. It’s available in black, purple and pink colours.

A Fitbit Alta wireless – which is one of the more basic Fitbit models – costs around £100 from most major retailers, although we found .

The designer version, which comes in black and purple colours, does have more features than the one from Lidl, like the ability to get text and calendar alerts.

Crucially, it has a display screen which means you can track your progress on your bracelet without checking your phone.

The strap on the Fitbit also look thinner and more elegant compared to the bargain version.

It is also designed to keep going for up to five days without needing to be charged, while it’s not clear how long the battery life actually lasts on Lidl’s product.

If you’re not convinced by Lidl’s offer, we tested the best fitness trackers out there including Fitbit, Nokia and Samsung – here’s our top five.

Best fitness tracker apps

HERE are the best fitness tracker apps

  • Fitbit – The Fitbit companion app nails the user experience. It’s easy to use and is great for people who have a casual interest in fitness tracking.
  • Garmin – This app has a lot more detail than Fitbit’s – even tracking the lifespan of your shoes! – but it’s not as easy to use and has a steep learning curve.
  • Samsung – The Gear Fit 2 Pro requires multiple apps to get the most out of it which is a little complicated, but works well enough when you’ve got your head round it.
  • Nokia – The Health Mate app is simple to use but isn’t as in-depth as the other apps.

But it might be worth borrowing one from a friend to make sure it works for you first.

Last year, scientists warned that fitness trackers could be doing more harm than good.

Computer expert Dr Greg Hager warned that a one-sized-fits-all approach could be harmful for many elderly or unfit Brits.
