Itsu dessert dumplings now on sale in Waitrose
Waitrose is selling frozen dessert dumplings and they come in three amazing flavours.
ITSU is popular for their flavoursome savoury dumplings but now its taking on desserts.
Waitrose is selling these sweet treats in the frozen aisle and there’s a dessert dumpling for everyone with three delicious fillings- caramelised apple, chocolate and banana and sweet berry.
One box contains fifteen individual dumplings and is available in store for £3.50. If you buy them online at Ocado they’re reduced to £3 until August 7.
The chocolate and banana flavour is the most indulgent of three, containing 138 calories for the suggested serving size of three gyoza.
But let’s be real, it’s probably going to be more like five or six.
You also don’t need to be an expert in the kitchen to rustle these up, they’re literally fool proof.
You can either bake them in the oven for five minutes or quickly fry them in a teaspoon of butter.
Itsu also provide a dipping sauce to go alongside the dumplings which include melted chocolate, apple sauce or a berry compote depending on your chosen filling. They can also be served with ice cream, fruit or dusted with a light sprinkling of sugar.
The dessert dumplings were spotted in the Waitrose frozen aisle by , who post about new and unusual supermarket finds.
British chain Itsu is popular for its “Asian-inspired, lean and clean dishes” which include sushi, gyoza and noodles.
They brought their home cooking range to supermarkets in March with the launch of their frozen savoury gyoza dumplings.
These also come in three bold flavours- vegetable fusion, king prawn and sesame tuna.
Itsu aren’t the first retailer to turn a well known savoury dish into a sweet one. This month we reported how Asda started selling Yorkshire pudding desserts in two different varieties- Rhubarb and Ginger and Toffee Apple.
The Real Yorkshire Pudding Company, the firm behind the pudding, claimed the desserts have the crispiness of the traditional Yorkshire pudding but come topped with real fruit and a golden crunchy crumble.
