Sainsbury’s Fruit and Honey Seed Mix recalled because they actually contain nuts
The supermarket has pulled the snack bags from shelves after a small number were found to contain almonds and cashew nuts
SAINSBURY'S is recalling its own-brand fruit and honey seed snack bags because some of them actually contain nuts.
The supermarket does not declare this on the packaging of the Fruit and Honey Seed Mix and so someone with a nut allergy could accidentally eat them without knowing.
People with a nut allergy can suffer with stomach pains, vomiting and diarrhoea, as well as have difficulty breathing.
Some severe forms of the allergy can be life threatening and can send you into anaphylactic shock.
Normally the 35g packets are made up of a mix of honey coated sunflower seeds, raisins, dried chopped apricots, pumpkin seeds and sweetened cranberries.
The affected packets contain almonds and cashew nuts too, and have a best before date of September 2018. The batch number is SKU 07614567.
What is being recalled?
IF you've got a packet of the snacks at home then this is what you should look out for:
Name: by Sainsbury's Fruit and Honey Seed Mix 32g
Best before: September 2018
Batch number: SKU 07614567
Why? A small number of bags contain undeclared almonds and cashew nuts
What should I do? Return the snacks to your nearest Sainsbury's store in exchange for a full refund
Sainsbury's posted the recall notice on the Food Standards Agency website and said the recall was a "precautionary measure".
Customers who have purchased the products and know they have a nut allergy should return them to their nearest store.
Supermarkets recall thousands of products from the shelves each year.
An investigation by the Sun Online found that food recalls have gone up by 44 per cent in three years.
Many safety warnings for products are issued as a precautionary measure but others are much more serious.
