Sadly you can't earn the bonus points on everything in store.

It's only available on selected Holiday products - like toothpaste, dry shampoo and sunscreen - for shoppers looking to stock up on essentials ahead of their summer holiday.

It also includes items from the supermarket's Taste of Summer range like British pork and pepper kebabs, chicken tights and pork ribs, for those planning a barbecue.

Even if it's a good offer, make sure to only buy the items that you actually need - it's not worth spending your hard-earned cash just to get the extra reward.

To claim the deal all you'll have to do is shop and use your Nectar card as you normally would to receive the extra points.

Here's how to cut the cost of your grocery shop

SAVING on your shop can make a big difference to your wallet. Here are some tips from Hannah Maundrell, editor of Money.co.uk, about how you can cut the cost of your shopping bills:

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – you are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

You can get the bonus Nectar points when you shop at any Sainsbury's store as well as petrol stations and when ordering your shopping online.

Usually Sainsbury's gives you one Nectar point, worth 0.5p, for every £1 you spend in stores. Under this deal every £1 you spend will earn you 5p worth of Nectar points.

This compares to getting £1 back on every £20 you spend.

James Moir, Nectar managing director, said:  “Summer is all about getting out and about and making the most of the sunshine.

By boosting customers’ point balances during this busy four-week period we hope to give them everything they need for an unforgettable break.

"There are offers to cover every occasion, so no matter how you plan on spending the sunny season, there will be something for you.”
