Aldi’s own-brand whiskies named best in the world – for second year in a row
Supermarket giant wins big at the world-renowned Scotch Whisky Masters
IT'S been another very good year for Aldi's own brand whiskies, as they have been crowned ''the best in the world'' for a second time.
Picking up the honour at Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters, the supermarket was in direct competition with tipples that cost THREE times as much.
The Scotch Whisky Masters, a global competition that pits spirits against each other in a series of rigorous blind taste tests.
Judges included experienced bartenders, spirits journalists, and spirits educators.
At the ceremony Aldi's Highland Black Scotch Whisky which costs £12.99 and Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky, retailing at £17.49 - won gold medals in their categories.
The bottles beat Chivas Brothers’ Ballantine’s 12 Year Old blended whisky, which retails at nearly three times the price of Aldi’s whisky at £38.32.
Meanwhile, Aldi's Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky picked up a Silver medal.
This isn’t the first time Aldi’s whisky range has been given the nod of approval by experts.
Last year, the range was awarded a combined 29 medals at international competitions, as well as six silver medals at the renowned International Spirits Challenge earlier this year.
It's worth noting though, as with most booze competitions, they only judge drinks which are entered and there are lots of awards out there.
