Join the jet set at Gatwick Airport and bag one of the 1,200 jobs in check-in, aircraft servicing or in the terminals

Jet-fuelled career rise
JAMIE NELSON-SINGER got a summer job at Gatwick as a student and joined full-time two days after graduating.
Now 35, he began at the airport’s call centre and is now control centre duty manager.
Jamie, of Eastbourne, East Sussex, said: “I was only meant to be here for three months but I came back every summer as a student and never left.
“I’ve been at the airport for 14 years. Now I’m responsible for co-ordinating all operations in the airport, covering disruption when things go wrong to planning for events we know are going to take place.
“I remember starting on £7.67 an hour, whereas the duty manager role pays between £38,000 and £46,000.
“My advice to anyone thinking of applying is, don’t be afraid to start at the bottom. People sometimes forget I started by answering the phone and emptying bins and working my way up.
“Never be afraid to do that. When you get higher up you will be a better leader because of it.
“The best thing about the jobs here are the people. There is a huge team at Gatwick, up to 30,000.
“We all feel like we know each other and are friends, we even call it the Gatwick family.
“I spend most of my time while working laughing and genuinely enjoying my day. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like work at all. Don’t tell the boss.”
