EE has about 30 million customers in the UK but these changes only apply to those with pay monthly contracts.

Starting from next month, calls to Ireland and the Channel Islands are set to double from 50p per minute to £1.

Customers making a call to any other European country are set to pay £1.50 per minute instead of £1.

Calls to other parts of the world from will the UK will cost £2 a minute – up from £1.60.

How to beat the price hike

HERE's how you can avoid paying more

  • If you're one of the small number of customers you can leave penalty free: Customers whose total bill will be 5 per cent higher as a result of the new charges will be allowed to terminate their contracts for free.
EE said that anyone with the right to cancel their contracts will be notified of their rights.
  • If you're out of your minimum term of your contract then you leave penalty free: If you’re outside the minimum term of your contract then you can leave penalty free - and you might be able to find a cheaper deal elsewhere.
The best way to find a new deal is by checking comparison websites, such as and , which compare tariffs and handset prices.
It’s also worth trying Billmonitor, it matches buyers to the best pay-monthly deal based on their previous three months of bills.
  • If you're not, then try and haggle with them: Many of us are reluctant to haggle. But it can often get you a better deal.
You should always shop around to see if you could pay less elsewhere.
First, find out how much you could be paying for this size of bundle with other providers by searching around online.
Then call your provider and tell them you'd like a discount on your mobile phone contract and wait to see what they offer.
Sun Online consumer reporter, Hollie Borland hit the high street to see if she could blag a discount on price tags. These are the stores she managed to get off by haggling.
And here are our five tips on how to drive hard a bargain.

The cost of out of contract calls to UK landlines, mobiles and voicemail will increase by 5p a minute to 55p. These include access charges for calling numbers starting with 08, 09 and 118.

Picture messages will also go up at the same rate.

A spokesperson for EE told the Sun Online: "We don’t take the decision to increase prices lightly, and this is the first increase to mobile out-of-bundle costs since 2016, and even after these changes our pricing is comparable to other mobile operators.

"We’re committed to providing our customers the best experience, service and value, and these small changes help us to continue to invest in the services we provide to our customers."

In February, the mobile provider already increased prices for millions of customers by 4.1 per cent -  in line with the Retail Prices Index (RPI) measure of  inflation.

While Virgin Mobile hiked prices by 3.3 per cent this month.

Mobile firm Three also announced a rise of 2.6 per cent earlier this year for millions of customers.
