Shoppers slam Morrisons for selling wonky veg in plastic packaging
Twitter users aren't happy about Morrisons "useless" packaging, even Phillip Schofield weighed in on the plastic covered veg
MORRISONS has taken a lot flack on Twitter for wrapping their waste reducing wonky veg range in plastic.
The supermarket launched the range to try and reduce the amount of vegetables that get unnecessarily binned.
But, Morrisons' more eco-friendly range has got Twitter all riled up.
Some of the vegetables in the wonky veg range are individually wrapped in plastic.
Twitter users have slammed the supermarket for the wasteful wrapping.
Even This Morning host Phillip Schofield was critical of the wonky veg range.
The TV host said "Love the wonky veg idea Morrisons... shame they're all wrapped in plastic."
Luke Benson Tweeted: Why are you selling wonky veg wrapped in plastic? Are you unaware of the current situation with our oceans?"
FindXander said that he couldn't find a single piece of fruit or veg that wasn't wrapped in plastic.
Tegan The Vegan said that although the wonky veg range was dirt cheap she can't buy it because the plastic wrapping is unethical.
More on money
A spokesperson from Morrisons has told The Sun Online: "Because our wonky range is cheaper than our standard range it needs to be bagged up and sold separately so that customers aren't overcharged."
But not all shoppers were outraged at the plastic wrapped veg.
Jason Gilmartin said: "I am delighted with my first wonky veg purchase."
"I have had these chillies for over 10 days now and they are still fresh as you like."
For those looking for a less healthy option, Morrisons are now selling 'dirty' carbonara fries.
Morrisons were also mocked recently for slashing prices by just 1p.
Shoppers pay up to 54 per cent more for buying their fruit and veg loose, which supermarket sells the cheapest produce with no packaging?
