The 21-year-old serial money saver has been battling Crohn's Disease - and was laid up in for the illness.

But that didn't stop Jordon from making nearly £1,000 from his hospital bed and even finished his book - the Ultimate UK Couponing Guide.

And now he's out and on the mend, he's revealed how he managed to pick up his mum's shop for just £5 by using a variety of coupons and offers.

Writing on his blog he said: "Thanks to a wodge of coupons I’ve collected, I’ve just bagged £68-worth of shopping for just over £5.

"Anyone can do this. You may not get the exact same result, as it depends what groceries you buy and what coupons you can lay your hands on, but this will hopefully show just how easily you can slash the cost of your weekly grocery shop with coupon."

Here's how Jordon made such a big saving:

Supermarket offers - saved £16.85

Jordon used price comparison site  to find out what would be the best place to use some of his coupons - and found that Sainsbury's would be the best place to go.

He also used a savvy shopper technique called "stacking."

This is where you combine a range of offers and coupons on one item to get an even better saving - or if you're really lucky for free.

For example, if something worth £1 is reduced by 50p, you can use a coupon to get another 50p off - and pick up the item for nothing at all.

Jordon said: "Sainbury's was the best place to go with the coupons I had.

"The total savings from in-store offers on the items I planned to buy with coupons came to £16.85 – which is already a decent amount off, but I was just getting started…"

Printable coupons - saved £10.89

There are loads of coupon websites you can use to get money off your shop - all you have to do is print them off and show them at the check out.

MSE has it's own  which is regularly updated with offers on typical shopping items - all you have to do is download the coupon and away you go.

Jordon used printed coupons to get a free 1litre pint of milk and heavily discounted cleaning products like Bold and Febreze.

Coupons from contacting companies - saved £36.70

While in hospital, Jordon managed to bag more than £75 worth of freebies and coupon from various manufacturers - and used almost £40 of this on his shopping trip.

But how did he do it?

Well one of Jordon's biggest tips in getting your hands on discount vouchers is to contact a company directly.

It doesn't matter if it's to complain or praise - the company could send you vouchers to thank you for your appreciation to apologise for the service you've received.

Jordon put his tip to the test he emailed loads of different brands an affectionate poem about their product to see if they'd be tempted to send him coupons by way of thanks.

How do I sign up and get cashback?

IT’S easy to start earning cashback on your bills and purchases. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Sign up to a cashback website. Topcashback.co.uk and Quidco are two of the best. Click the ‘Join now’ option and enter your email address and password
  2. Make sure you click the free / basic membership option, otherwise you’ll be charged. If you want premium membership, both websites charge £5 a month for this. The premium membership will reward customers with bonus cashback, ad-free shopping and quicker payouts
  3. Find a deal that you want to purchase, whether that’s a home insurance policy, a new laptop from Currys, or a Tesco grocery shop. Instead of going directly to the retailer, you can access the shop through a link in the cashback website, and any purchase made will be registered with the cashback site.
  4. You still receive your item directly from the retailer, and the cashback earned will be added to your online account. Once it’s there, you can withdraw it and transfer it to your bank account, or you can turn your cashback into a gift voucher or code to spend at a retailer.
  5. Bear in mind that it can take a few days or even weeks for the cashback to appear in your account on the website.

It takes a bit of time but Jordon said anyone can take advantage.

He said: "The coupons you earn from sweet talking brands are usually high-value, either resulting in a total freebie or a hefty discount, and although these ones are specific to me, and it took a bit of time and effort to collect them, anyone could do the same."
