Tesco angers customers by making a change to its lunchtime meal deal
The supermarket has swapped its usual 500ml bottles of Coca-Cola and Pepsi for new 375ml bottles due to the sugar tax
TESCO has shrunk the size of the fizzy drinks in their meal deal and customers are furious.
The UK's biggest supermarket has swapped the usual 500ml bottles of Coca-Cola and Pepsi for smaller 375ml ones.
Annoyingly the cost of the lunchtime favourite, which includes a sandwich, snack and crisps still costs £3.
One customer tweeted: "Wtf has happened to bottles of coke @Tesco why are the dumpy little bottles in the £3 meal deal? Why do this to me?"
Another said: "Tesco has recently changed its meal deals so that it includes miniature full sugar cokes but only 500ml as coke zero and I'm so mad about it."
The supermarket has made the swap due to the new sugar tax, which means drink firms must pay a tax to the government depending on how sugary their drinks are.
As a result some manufactures have changed their recipes to include less sugar.
More than half of all soft drinks have been changed to lower their sugar content, as the government introduces a new sugar tax to help tackle the UK’s growing obesity crisis.
Under the new rules which come in today, drinks with at least 8g of sugar per 100ml will cost 24p a litre more, falling to 18p for those with 5g to 8g per 100ml.
The cost is already being passed onto retailers and customers.
In fact, Mcdonald's has already pushed up the price of Coca-Cola and meal prices due to the tax.
