BRITS are expected to go crazy for the new set of alphabet 10p coins that have launched today.
But what’s the idea behind the new 10ps and what does each letter mean?
What are the new 10p A to Z coins?
The Royal Mint has today launched its “Great British Coin Hunt”, with 26 new designs celebrating the best of everything British. You can find them on the Royal Mint website .
It hopes that the public will join in the hunt and start checking their change for coins and try and complete the entire collection.
Collectors will also be able to track their progress – and even create their own designs – on a new app which you can down to your smart phone for free via the App Store or Google Play.
Some 2.6million coins have been minted – 100,000 for each letter.
What are the designs?
All 26 designs are meant to show something that represents the UK, with 10 of the designs including fish and chips, cricket,Loch Ness Monster, and tea, all inspired by a public vote.

- E – English breakfast
- F – Fish and chips
- G – Greenwich Mean Time
- H – Houses of Parliament
- I – Ice cream cone

Where can I get the new 10ps from?
You’ve got a couple of choices when it comes to completing your collection.
You can either hope you get lucky and and find them in your change – the coins will enter proper circulation from Monday (March 5) or you can buy them yourself.
The Post Office confirmed to the Sun Online that it will be selling brilliantly uncirculated coins from today at major Post Office branches across the country.
They’ll be on sale for £2 each and you can also order them from the too.
you can also pick-up a presentation pack to display your coins for £9.90 via its website.
And if you really want to push the boat out, you can order a silver commemorative coin for £35 each too.
