What are the best luxury investments? From video games to designer purses…and even a Rolex (if you can afford it)
Splashing out on luxury buys is always something to enjoy - but will top-end watches, designer handbags and games consoles be worth anything in 2028?
HOW much do you think your big ticket items will be worth in 10 years' time?
We all hope that our most expensive purchases will hold their value over time - even if you aren't planning on selling it for a pretty penny.
Well The Sun Online has travelled back to 2007 to check the prices of some of the most popular items of the year - and how much they are worth today.
Unsurprisingly, luxury watch brands like Omega and Rolex have held and increased their value over the last decade while once-modern expensive tech like old Apple Macs, iPhones and Playstations are now worth next to nothing.
And while there's no guarantee that your luxury buys will be worth anything in a decade, here's what could be safe bets - and what's not.
Rolex Submariner 16610LV, 2007 price £3,280, Now £7,600 - gain £4,320 up 131 per cent
The Brits' love of Rolexes shows no signs of slowing down - back in November a watch owned by actor Paul Newman sold for a world record £13million auction.
The Submariner design was originally launched in 1953 and made famous by Sean Connery in his series of James Bond films in the 1960s.
This version of the watch, as well as the standard 2007 version, have held and actually increased their value over the last decade, putting on a whopping £4,320.
Omega Speedmaster 50th anniversary watch, 2007 price £3,050, Now £4,495 - gain £1,145, up 47 per cent
Similarly this 50th anniversary watch from Omega has increased in value, going up by more than £1,000 in the last 10 years.
1oz of gold, 2007 price £478, Now £965 - gain £487, up 101 per cent
Okay, so you might not have an ounce of gold hanging around in your attic - but if you have gold jewellery and you're after a decent investment then you can't go far wrong.
Gold was the most reliable investment you could make over the last 10 years, with the value of 1oz jumping by nearly £500.
HOW TO SELL YOUR LUXURY GOODS
IF you're after making a tidy profit from your watch or jewellery, then there's a few things you need to know.
Firstly you'll need to know if it's worth anything. Lots of websites like and have valuation forms where you can fill in your watch details and see how much it could be worth.
These sorts of sites will also offer you a quote to buy your watch so make sure you shop around too and get a few of them so you know you're getting a good price - don't just take the first offer you get.
It's also worth you visit a few jewellery stores yourself to see how much they'll offer you too
iPhone 2G 2007 price £309, Now £13 - loss £296, down 95 per cent
It's hard to remember a time when the iPhone wasn't around but the very first model was released by the boffins at Apple way back in 2007.
But what was once cutting edge technology becomes out-dated really quickly - if you do have the oldest version of the phone lying around in a cupboard you could flog it for just £13.
Apple's 2007 Mac Book's value has also fallen off a cliff, selling for around £60 when its retail price was £1,263 - a drop of £1,200.
Playstation 3, 2007 price £425, Now £45 - loss £380, down 89 per cent
The Playstation 3 was still brand new a decade ago and would have cost game fans an eye-watering £425.
And you won't get much for it if you try and sell it on in 2018, with the console selling on the second hand market for around £45.
Louis Vuitton Sarah Long Purse, 2007 price £395, Now £150 - loss £245, down 62 per cent
Fashionistas are always on the look-out for some classic vintage gear - and you could pick up a bargain with a Louis Vuitton handbag from 2007 for £150 nowadays.
That's bad news though if you bought the back at the time and was hoping it would be a worthy investment - its value has dropped by 62 per cent in the last 10 years.
