The so-called Grand Mac comes with two heftier all-beef patties, two slices of cheese, more lettuce and onions on a huge sesame bun for very hungry customers.

It will also set you back by nearly £4 and about 741kcal.

Kinder to your wallet and to your waistline, the Mac Jr is essentially just a single-patty burger with special sauce and is intended to be "easily eaten on the go".

You can pick it up for £2.19 and it has 400kcal - about a 100 less than a regular Big Mac, for customers who don't want to ruin their January diet.

Sadly, the new limited-edition burgers will be available until March 20 only - so you'll need to be quick if you want to try it.

McDonald's classic products at a glance

HERE are some of our favourites meals from Maccies and when they launched

  • 1968 - The Big Mac: The burger was first created in February 1968 by an American McDonald’s franchisee named Jim Delligatti in Pennsylvania, USA. Delligatti originally wanted to call the burger "The Aristocrat", however after consideration McDonald’s chose to go with the now famous name Big Mac.
  • 1972 - Egg McMuggin: The burger  chain pioneered breakfast fast food with the introduction of the Egg McMuffin in 1972.
Five years later McDonald's added a full breakfast line to the menu.
  • 1979 - Happy Meal:  The famous combo meal from our childhood featuring a toy, was added to the menu in 1979.
  • 1983 - Chicken McNuggets:  Introduced in 1983, these are small chicken chunks served with dipping sauces of barbecue, sweet n' sour, honey, and hot mustard. Since their launch they are available in boxes of four, six or ten
  • 1998 - McFlurry: The desserts, developed by a Canadian franchisee in 1997, proved popular when launched in the United States in the summer of 1998. We had to wait until 2000 before seeing the creamy treats in the UK
  • 2001 - Big N' Tasty: The burger was devised to resemble Burger King's Whopper sandwich. It includes a 4-ounce (113 g) beef patty with ketchup, cheese, mayonnaise with grilled, diced onions, pickles, leaf lettuce, and tomatoes.

The new addition come as the Big Mac, which was first created in 1968, celebrates its 50th birthday.

The Mac Jr and Grand Mac were already tested in 2016 in Ohio and Dallas, because they are "beef-centric areas".

McDonald's franchises have featured many different menu items in recent months as it is fighting more up-market chains like Five Guys and Shake Shack from taking an even bigger bite out of its business.
