Cost of Britain’s favourite crisps like Hula Hoops face price hike in major supermarkets
Brand owner KP Snacks told a trade magazine that 'inflationary pressures' are what caused the rising costs
Britain’s snack-lovers are facing a hike in the price of some of their favourite crunchy treats including Hula Hoops, according to a new report yesterday.
For the latest research shows that bags of several popular best-known treats have been increased by between 5p and 10p in High Street supermarkets.
Brand owner KP Snacks told trade magazine The Grocer that “inflationary pressures “ had caused it to pass on rising costs.
The magazine said that supermarket shelf prices of smaller formats of Hula Hoops, Butterkist and McCoy’s had risen in Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
Changes included Sainsbury’s increasing Hula Hoops Original and 50g BBQ Beef from 85p to 90p and five Butterkist lines from £1.60 to £1.70.
In Tesco, McCoy’s 47.5g Cheddar & Onion was among eight products to become 5p more expensive at 85p.
KP’s branded sales director Andy Riddle told The Grocer: “ KP Snacks continues to experience inflationary pressures “ but worked “ extremely hard to mitigate the impact."
