Morrisons caught selling rival supermarket chain Tesco’s own-brand tea — and it’s 11p CHEAPER
Shoppers spotted the Tesco Finest range peppermint and green tea flavours at a Morrisons in Berkshire
MORRISONS has caused a brew-haha after it was caught flogging tea bags from a rival supermarket.
And loyal Tesco customers would have felt mugged off as Morrisons was selling the bags at a cheaper price.
Shoppers spotted some of the Tesco Finest range — including peppermint and green tea — on shelves of a competitor’s store in Bracknell, Berks.
The box of 15 leaf tea bags normally retails for £2.99 but was 11p cheaper at £2.88 in Morrisons.
Local Glyn Ingram, 38, said: “It seems crazy that they are flogging them.
"I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it. I checked and found out they are even cheaper than in Tesco too.”
Yesterday Morrisons blamed a supply cock-up.
A spokesman said: “This product was sent to our Bracknell store and put on the shelf by mistake.”
Tom Church, co-founder of , said: “These slips reveal you’re paying for the name and nothing more.
"It’s proof they use the same suppliers.”
Earlier this week Sainsbury’s pikelets, a cross between a crumpet and a pancake, were on sale at an Asda store in Lancashire 10p cheaper than normal.
