Is the 2018 Sir Isaac Newton 50p coin about to become one of the most valuable? It’s already selling for £64 on eBay
THERE'S a new coin which is causing quite a stir with collectors.
Last year, the Royal Mint launched a 50p coin featuring the Sir Isaac Newton design. At first, just 375 of the coins were released into the tills at Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, the birthplace and home of the famous scientist.
But more of the coins were slowly released into circulation - adding up to a total of 1.8million, making it the second rarest 50p behind the 2009 Kew Gardens coin.
Now The Royal Mint has confirmed that it is releasing a 2018 version of the Sir Isaac Newton coin but the only place that you'll be able to get one is at The Royal Mint Experience centre in wales, according to .
Interestingly, these 2018 coins will not be released into circulation and this could make them very popular with collectors.
Tickets to the experience centre cost £13 for an adult, as well as discounted rates for children, students and seniors.
There is then an additional £5 per person or £7.50 for two Sir Newton Isaac coins, once you're there.
These 2018 coins are now selling for around £50-£64 on eBay - a pretty good profit, although you'll have to factor in travel to Wales too.
The 2017 version, which can be found in spare change, is going for around £12 on the auction website - six times its original value.
The coin has been created as part of a collaboration between the Royal Mint and the National Trust, to celebrate 375 years since Sir Newton's birth.
MORE ON COINS AND NOTES
As well as helping to shape our understanding of maths and physics, Sir Isaac was master of the Royal Mint for nearly three decades.
When he was appointed warden of the Mint in 1696, at the age of 53, he was already a well-established scientist.
A report he produced in 1717 helped to establish gold coin as the pre-eminent currency of the UK, paving the way for the introduction of the "gold standard".

Even if your coin “sells” on eBay for a high price there’s no guarantee that the buyer will cough up.
It its terms and conditions, the auction website states that bidders enter a “legally binding contract to purchase an item”, but there’s no way to enforce this rule in reality.
The most eBay can do is add a note to their account for the unpaid item or remove their ability to bid and buy.
The 50p coin has been designed by Aaron West, one of the Mint's team of graphic designers.
It was even voted the.
But it's not actually the most desirable 50p coin out there.
The Kew Gardens 50p coin regularly sells for around £120 on eBay, while the football 50p coin usually sells for around £27 on the auction website.
