POUNDLAND has dropped its prices to just 25p as part of its post-Christmas sale - and it could slash them even further.

Products available for just 25p include cocktail making sets, candles as well as sweets.

Home Alone DVDs, Simpsons mugs and Christmas crackers were also part of the sale but we do not know if they are still in stock.

One bargain hunter on the now claims that prices could be slashed to just 5p from Sunday January 15.

This summer, the bargain store launched its first-ever summer sale cutting thousands of products to just 50p.

It's part of a new strategy to introduce more items at lower price points.

But despite its popular discounts, all is not well at Poundland.

The bargain shop could be sold after experts last year warned its owner may run out of cash.

South Africa's Steinhoff, which owns Poundland and other well-known high-street stores, is in the midst of a full-blown crisis, which was sparked by revelations of accounting irregularities earlier this month.

Shares in the firm fell by 60 per cent in Demce,ber after it announced an investigation into the issue, with chief exec Markus Jooste resigning as it delayed publishing its full-year results.

Before Christmas, the budget retailer also provoked a storm of outrage on social media with its series of Twitter ads showing a naughty elf in various sexual poses and positions, prompting the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) to launch an investigation into the ads.

The storm was sparked when Poundland posted a picture of the elf standing over a female doll and asking: "How do you like your tea? One lump or two?"

The pic also featured a box of Twinnings Classic teabags, with the company accusing Poundland of "misusing" its product.

In June, an investigation found that items sold by pound shop brands - including Poundland - are sometimes up to 60 per cent cheaper elsewhere.
