SHOPPERS will splurge a record £1.7billion on the biggest pre-Christmas “Super Saturday” in high street history today.
One in three adults, or 17million people, will take advantage of huge discounts of up to 86 per cent.
The blowout is expected to smash 2013’s £1.28billion previous best for the last Saturday before Christmas.
Spending today will be up a huge 50 per cent on the last Saturday a year ago, when it fell on Christmas Eve, which has shorter hours.
Online shoppers will spend an additional £220million, said the Centre for Retail Research study for VoucherCodes.
The spending bonanza will be triggered by giant discounts, yesterday's payday, the whole country being on holiday and shoppers waiting later than ever to spend, analysts said.
Bargains are so big that shoppers who would have waited to spend until post-Christmas sales in previous years are spending now instead.

Claire’s slashed a 86 per cent from £14 to £2.
