Take advantage of the supermarket price war and feed the family this Xmas for under £2 per person
Follow these tips to put turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, sprouts, potatoes, parsnips and carrots on the table this Christmas for just £1.66 per head
A PRICE war at the supermarkets means you can knock up a tasty Christmas dinner for eight people this year for under £2 a head.
If you were to duck and dive between the different stores, seeking out the best deal for each item on your list, below, the bill would be £13.47 – or £1.68 per head.
Let’s face it, that’s a bit of a slog, and it is much easier to target just one store. So we asked each big supermarket to bag us turkey, cranberry sauce, sage & onion stuffing, Brussels sprouts, potatoes, parsnips and carrots for eight.
Doing that, the cheapest is Iceland, at £17.60, or £2.20 a head – but you have to make do with frozen turkey. The Co-op also gave us a frozen bird.
If you like fresh meat, the cheapest dinner is Lidl at £21.11, or £2.64 per head. Even at posh Marks & Spencer you can serve up lunch for £32 – a neat £4 per person.
But do note, the various supermarkets had different ideas of what was enough turkey and trimmings for eight.
And for afters we also suggest deals for Christmas puds and mince pies.
