B&Q issues urgent recall of remote control plugs that could catch fire
B&Q has urged customers to stop using the plugs immediately and return them to their nearest store for a refund
DIY retailer B&Q has issued an urgent recall for a batch of remote control plugs due to fears they may catch fire.
The shop has urged customers to immediately switch off and return the products.
The products were on sale between September 2014 and November 2017 - a total of 70,000 of them were sold.
B&Q has found that "excessive heat" can build-up in the plug of some of the products.
In a notice on its website B&Q said: "We have taken the decision to recall the products as in some circumstances, items in contact with the product could ignite.
"If you have purchased these products please stop using it immediately."
The barcode numbers of the affected products are 5052931395033 and 4895130705675.
Customers should switch off the plug at the wall and return it to their local store to get a refund.
Anyone concerned about the item should contact B&Q on 0300 303 4482 in the UK and 1800 946 327 in the Republic of Ireland.
A B&Q spokesperson commented: “B&Q has identified a potential risk with these products which have shown excessive heat build-up in the plug of some units.
"Due to the potentially serious nature of the risk and our commitment to safety, we have taken the decision to recall these products as in a rare set of circumstances, items in contact with the product could ignite.
"Customer safety is of paramount importance to B&Q and we have rigorous quality control procedures in place.”
Shops and manufactures issue recalls or product warning when they discover a problem with a product.
Sadly, there's no central database for recalls in the UK.
