The £4 Morrisons bottle of wine scoops same award as £25 bottle drunk by the Royal family for over 250 years
The supermarket bottle of claret scored silver in a prestigious wine competition - the same accolade awarded to a posher bottle from a merchant who has the Royal warrant
YOU can now drink wine that's good enough for the Queen, all for under a fiver.
A £4.75 bottle of red claret scooped a silver medal at a prestigious wine competition, which was also awarded to similar wine from a merchant who supplies the Royal family.
The Morrisons budget claret was given the accolade at the International Wine Competition, which is apparently considered to be like the Oscars of the booze world.
The same prize was given to another claret, the Emilion Grand Cru Royal red from Berry Bros. & Rudd, which has been supplying wine to the Royal family for over 250 years.
Morrisons claret is at least five times cheaper than the Emilion Grand Cru Royal red and is one of the cheapest clarets to ever win an IWC silver medal.
If the smallest price is what you're after then it's not the cheapest claret on the market.
XMAS PLONK Is this the cheapest bottle of mulled wine? Asda is selling one for £2.60
We found a similar one from Aldi that cost £4.26, which is 49p cheaper than the one from Morrisons but it hasn't won any awards.
Whilst we can't tell you which one tastes better, we can tell you that the bottle of Morrisons plonk is kinder to your purse.

Every year, the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles give Royal warrants to firms used by royal households for more than five years.
Unsurprisingly posh firms like Barbour and Fortnum & Mason make the grade - but so do cans of Heinz Baked Beans.
Another way of drinking the budget claret would be to heat it up with spices to make mulled wine over festive period.
